Epílogo (Abe Rábade)
Naíma Acuña exudes rhythm and solidity in her tempo as soon as she plays a couple of strokes. She´s got a “tasty poison” in her rhythmic interaction that I adore. We played for the first time in the Eivissa Jazz Experience project, in its 2017 edition. At her young age, she already has an impressive career on stage with leading figures on the international jazz scene.
Epilogue is the closing piece of the show “Lorca Namorado”, which I wrote and premiered in the Praza da Quintana (Compostela, Galiza-Spain) on May 30, 2019. Naíma was on drums on that date, too ! The A’s are based on a hypnotic rhythm of the traditional Carnival of Viana do Bolo (Ourense, Galiza-Spain), in 5/8 and the B’s also in another rhythm from that land, in 6/8. For a couple of years I have been lucky enough to play in a Fulión -traditional percussion group of those carnivals- (the one from the county of Punxeiro) with my cousin Ovidio. It is exciting to play these rhythms on hoes and bass drums!
