Abe Rábade

Pianist and composer. Born in Santiago de Compostela (Galiza, Spain) on September 8th, 1977. Graduated Cum Laude in Jazz Composition and Piano Performance from Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) in 1999. He has 12 recorded albums as a leader, he is the composer of three works for large formats, and is the Artistic Director of three musical-poetic productions. He was awarded ten times. He has played or recorded with a lot of internationally renowned artists in concerts and festivals around the world. He offers masterclasses in different conservatories in Spain and Portugal. He is also a professor of two top conservatories of music in Spain and Portugal.

ABE RÁBADE TRÍO

BIOGRAPHY

Has lead his acoustic jazz trio since 1996, currently featuring Pablo Martín Caminero on double bass and Bruno Pedroso on drums.

Formed the band Nordestin@s in 2006 with Galician singers Guadi Galego and Ugia Pedreira. Their homonimous album was a top 100 best sellers in Christmas of 2006.

Author of more than 200 original compositions (mainly jazz charts, but also several pieces of an experimental nature, as well as tunes with a Galician, Cuban, Brazilian, Flamenco or Classical flavour).

Since 2001 he has been artistic co-director (along with Paco Charlín) of the Seminario Permanente de Jazz (Permanent Jazz Seminar), in the Galician city of Pontevedra.

He has been a Faculty member at ESMAE (Porto, Portugal) since 2009, and of the Centro Superior de Música de Galicia (Galician Superior School of Music) since 2019.

Paseo dos Gafos (2014) -for Shymphonic Band-. Premiered by the Banda de Pontevedra (conducted by Juan Lois Diéguez) at the Teatro Principal de Pontevedra (Galiza-Spain).

 

Tránsitos (2015), -for Jazz Trio de Jazz and Symphonic Orchestra-. Premiered by the Real Filharmonía de Galicia (conducted by Paul Daniel) at the Auditorio de Galicia (Santiago de Compostela, Galiza-Spain). The work was performed again in 2019 by the Orquestra de Valëncia at the Teatro el Musical (Valéncia), conducted by Pablo Marqués.

 

Tempos Velados (2017), -for Piano, Children´s Choir, Mixed Choir and Symphony Orchestra-. Premiered by the Real Filharmonía de Galicia (conducted by Paul Daniel) at the Auditorio de Galicia (Santiago de Compostela, Galiza – Spain).

MUSICAL-POETIC PRODUCTIONS:

Rosalía 21 in 2008 (commissioned by the poet Anxo Angueira). Original compositions -for recited poetry, voice and jazz quartet- from poems by Rosalía de Castro. The show was premiered  at the Feria del Libro de La Habana (Cuba) in 2008, and the album published by the label Falcatruada.

 

Travessia dos Poetas in 2010 (for Portuguese singer Joana Machado). Original compositions -for voice, piano trio and woodwind ensemble – from texts by Portuguese poets Fernando Pessoa, Nuno Júdice, Sophia de Mello Breyner, Herberto Helder and Ruy Belo. The album was published by the Nuba + Karonte label.

 

Lorca Namorado in 2019. Original compositions -for 5 male voices and a hybrid ensemble (Jazz, traditional Galician and flamenco) – from the book of poems Seis Poemas Galegos by Federico García Lorca. The show was premiered at the Plaza de la Quintana (Santiago de Compostela, Galiza-Spain) in 2019.
